LEMON HILL GALLERY WELCOMES YOU
Celebrating creativity, resourcefulness and the human spirit
ABOUT THE GALLERY
Lemon Hill Gallery is a small gallery in a shipping container on a farm in East Gippsland. It is approached off the bitumen, on a gravel road!
Our address: 158 Lemon Hill Rd, Wairewa. Victoria.
There is no charge for visiting, or for exhibiting in the gallery and there is no commission on a sale. Sales take place between the artist and the buyer.
The container was donated after the 2019/20 bush fires and the gallery is
situated on the site of the burnt shed with a 360 degree view of the Wairewa valley and the state forest.
Exhibitions change every 4 weeks and the Gallery is closed in January, February and August.
The first exhibition "Christmas in a Container" by Merilyn Flynn was featured on ABC TV at Christmas time 2020.
Darren Chester, Federal Member for Gippsland, visited in November 2021

OPENING HOURS
Come Visit
The gallery is open on Sunday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm when a cup of tea or coffee and lemon slice (usually!) will be available.
It can be viewed at other times by arrangement. Night viewing has a certain charm. The night is black and the lights are dramatic on a farm far from street lights.

The next exhibition at
Lemon Hill Gallery
opens
on Sunday September 7th at 2pm.
All welcome!
"Like Oil and Water "
by
Claudia Bellsmith
In this exhibition of new work, Claudia Bellsmith, who is studying Graphic Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, explores how the medium in which she is working changes both her audiences interpretation of an artwork and also the themes she, as the artist, puts into it. Her watercolour paintings have no greater meaning than being aesthetically pleasing and picturesque. They are light, sweet and almost fairy like. In this she has been influenced by Pamela Allen's charming illustrations in children's books. Claudia's oils, in stark contrast, include darker themes of inner turmoil and of the powerful complexity of the human form. In these she has been inspired by Lucien Freud's bold and intense portraits. She comments that she finds "the small-scale watercolours to be refreshing in the politically and culturally tumultuous times that often influence the art world".
The exhibition has indeed been well named. 'Like Oil and Water'! Viewers will find the contrast striking.
Claudia has always been passionate about art, choosing related subjects at school and in after hours projects. She is 19 now and aims " to continue her artistic pursuits outside work and study" so that she can maintain a stable career while doing what she is passionate about...art.
Lemon Hill Gallery is pleased to again exhibit the work of a teenager, as we have done annually for 5 years. Claudia exhibited here in 2021 when she was 14. The difference and maturing skill is striking. We welcome her back and wish her well.
